2023 – $2,600 for Connecting Granby: Bridging our Communities through Radio and Education
Description: The grant request was submitted to support the project “Connecting Granby: Bridging our Communities through Radio and Education” by Fraser Valley Community Media, DBA KFFR 88.3FM. The project aimed to overcome challenges in maintaining reliable remote broadcasting connections in the Granby area, which is crucial for delivering consistent, high-quality programming to the local community.
Originally, the plan was to acquire Starlink equipment; however, after further consideration, the station opted to partner with MaxxKonnect Wireless, a prioritized, high-speed LTE internet service tailored specifically for broadcast applications. MaxxKonnect offered key benefits such as a true public static IP address, higher Quality of Service (QOS) on carrier networks, and no throttling, which ensured flawless remote broadcasts and seamless connections to transmitter sites.
This technology has been instrumental in achieving the project’s goals, particularly in improving the reliability of remote broadcasts and supporting the educational component of establishing a student radio station at Middle Park High School.
