Open Lands Rivers and Trails Seat Open

The Open Lands, Rivers and Trails Advisory Committee is accepting application for their spring grant cycle.  Funds are designed to help acquire lands, water rights, and maintenance costs for existing trail systems. 

Hear the interview with Anna Drexler-Dreis and new board member Brian Kelly from KFFR Public Affair’s Show on Wednesday, February 14th.  We discuss Brian’s vision for the advisory committee, some of the new opportunities coming in the Fall cycle, and what you need to do to apply this Spring.

2022 grantees

  • Headwaters Trails Alliance received funds for: Fraser Valley Trail Smart Sizing, National Public Lands Day, Adopt-A-Trail Program, Jim Creek Phase II, Challenger/Discovery Loop Trail, BLM Projects, Phases Trail System Redevelopment, Winter Trail Grooming, Fraser to Granby Trail, Rollins Pass Kiosk Replacement, and Idlewild Trail System Maintenance.
  • Continental Divide Trail Coalition received funds to maintain the CDT in Grand County.
  • Grand Lake Metro Rec District received funds for general trail maintenance and noxious weed control.
  • The Town of Hot Sulphur Springs received funds to improve the trail at Himebaugh Gulch.
  • Grand Lake Trailgroomers received funds to groom their winter trails.
  • The Town of Winter Park received funds to do maintenance work on Vasquez Creek.
OLRT Fund Expiration
  • The OLRT Fund will expire at the end of 2026, unless reinstated by the Grand County voters. The Board of County Commissioners is working with Trust for Public Land to develop a public survey that will be sent out this winter to better understand community needs for the reinstatement of the OLRT Fund going forward. Community members can expect to see a ballot question in 2024 or 2025 regarding reinstating the OLRT Fund. Anna Drexler-Dreis joined DJ Foz in the KFFR studios to talk about the Open Lands River and Trails Advisory Committee (OLRT).  As the administrator for OLRT she has overseen several projects that have made Grand County a better place to recreate and preserve.  In this interview, she talks about the upcoming Ballot Initiative 1A, their search for new board members, and the history of the organization.
